Day trips around Mallorca from Santanyí
Santanyí is an unbeatable base for exploring the rest of Mallorca. The island is easy to get around by car, and from the penthouse you can plan full-day trips to very different places: city, mountains, caves or islands. These are the ones we recommend most to our guests.
Palma de Mallorca
About a 50-minute drive away, the capital deserves at least a day. Its Gothic cathedral facing the sea is a must, as is getting lost in the old town, the Passeig del Born, the grand courtyards and the array of shops and restaurants. A good plan: a morning of monuments and an afternoon of shopping and tapas.
Valldemossa and Sóller
In the Serra de Tramuntana (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) are two of the island's prettiest villages. Valldemossa, with its cobbled streets and flowers, is home to the Charterhouse where Chopin stayed. Sóller, in a valley of orange groves, connects to its port via a historic wooden train. It's a perfect full-day trip (1h 15min drive), ideally combining both.
Drach Caves
About 30 minutes away, near Porto Cristo, these caves contain one of the largest underground lakes in the world, with a live classical music concert over the water. A different and highly recommended plan, especially if you're travelling with children or on a day of extreme heat.
Cabrera island
From the port of Colònia de Sant Jordi (15 minutes from the penthouse), boats leave for the Cabrera National Park, a pristine archipelago of crystal-clear water. The trip includes a swim and snorkelling stops. It's worth booking ahead in high season.
Cap de Formentor and Sa Calobra
For lovers of dramatic landscapes, the north offers the Formentor viewpoint and lighthouse and the spectacular road of 25 bends that drops down to Sa Calobra. These are long drives from the south, so it's best to set aside a full day and leave early.
With the penthouse in the centre of Santanyí you get the best of both worlds: the calm of the village and the coves nearby, and the whole island within reach whenever you fancy exploring.
