Santanyí market: the soul of the village on Wednesdays and Saturdays
One of the great privileges of staying right in the centre of Santanyí is waking up on a Wednesday or Saturday and walking down to the market. No car, no parking, no rush. From Santanyí Penthouse it's literally around the corner, and it's one of the most charming markets in southern Mallorca.
What you'll find
The market spreads through the streets and squares of the old town, between the golden marés stone façades so typical of Santanyí. There's everything: local fruit and vegetables, Mallorcan olives and cured meats, cheeses, flowers, linen clothing and accessories, basketwork, ceramics and local crafts. It's the perfect place to do your weekly shop with fresh produce or to pick up an authentic souvenir.
Much more than shopping
The best thing about the market isn't just what you buy, but the atmosphere. The bar terraces fill up, you hear conversation in Mallorcan and locals mingle with visitors. It's the perfect moment to sit down for a coffee with ensaïmada, watch the rhythm of the village and understand why Santanyí wins over everyone who visits.
When to go
The market is set up on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, roughly from 8:00 to 13:30. In summer it's worth going early: it's cooler and the stalls are at their best. Take a cloth bag, some small change and a willingness to wander without a plan.
Few plans capture the essence of a Santanyí holiday better: authentic village life, local produce and the beach waiting just fifteen minutes away for afterwards.
